Message fast as F1, and was circuit racing with only like 2 or three ovals (Indianapolis included). Plus I didnt have to wake up at 5 in the morning to watch it or stay home saturday night to catch it at midnight or 2 AM. PLUS, they had downtown races which were my favorites, Houston, Detroit, Miami, Mexico City, Sydney, etc etc. Oh and dont forget Laguna Seca...

The tracks were every bit as technical and IMO more difficult than F1, when you consider F1 runs one (monaco) city circuit where a mistake means you hit a wall, but CART ran several city circuits.

That all came to an end when the George Family (owners of Indianapolis Speedway) decided their greed outweighed the value of world class open-wheel motorsports in North America.

Now we have a shitty open-wheel version of NASCRAP, run completely on ovals that will NEVER be as popular as NASCRAP for the very reasons you just stated. People want to see wrecks and rubbing and tom-foolery on the track, whch is possible is NASCRAP. But in open wheel the slightest rub can fuck a suspension or snap it, the slightest nudge can result in the loss of a wing, both resulting almost certainly in a crash if they happen at the wrong moment, and there fore ending that car's day. In NASCRAP on certain tracks, you can win a race with half your front body panels missing and 300 sq ft of duct tape holding your shit together, lol.

The whole Danica Patrick hoopla far outshining every other story in the IRL, even at the Indy 500 (once the greatest race in the world, now an afterthought on Memorial Day weekend) is all the proof you need that open-wheel racing in North America is at an all time low.
